Published:  02 March, 2018

New Zealand Winegrowers are offering the chance for trade form UK and Ireland to win a trip to the international Sauvignon Blanc Celebration in Marlborough from 28 to 30 January 2019.

‘Sauvignon 2019’ marks the return of an event dedicated to celebrating and promoting Sauvignon Blanc is all its diversity, bring together producers, trade and press to explore the evolution and styles of a grape that is the UKs most popular variety.

The competition is being run against a backdrop of New Zealand exports achieving a record high of NZ$1.675 billion. Sauvignon Blanc accounting for 12.8% of wine sales in the UK, with New Zealand commanding 44.3% of category sales.

Outlining the framework of the UK competition, Winegrowers’ UK marketing manager Chris Stroud explained: “the competition is open to any sector of the trade from multiples, independents, on-trade and online. Entry is free, and participating outlets must list at least three New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs from at least two different styles or regions.”

Those taking up the challenge will be required to run a two-week promotion focused on Sauvignon Blanc, to coincide with International Sauvignon Blanc Day on Friday 4 May 2018.

A panel of independent judges will then judge the most innovative and educational promotions, singling out winners on both the effectiveness of their campaigns and uplift of sales of Sauvignon Blanc.

“It is a fantastic opportunity for participating outlets to increase their New Zealand range of wines, add value to their business, and potentially win the wine trip of a lifetime. We are looking for participants to showcase the diversity and quality of our number one variety,” said Stroud.
