Subscription service pushing Italian wines set for launch

Published:  04 December, 2017

A new subscription service aimed at pushing Italian wine in the UK is set for launch next week.

Sommelier Wine Box, which will launch on indiegogo.com on the 11th of December to “test the idea and collect pre-orders”, will deliver three wines a month to subscribers, with a different sommelier choosing a theme each month, selecting bottles from rare and less well knows producers.

Two different options will be available for subscribers - one for ‘experts’ and one for ‘enthusiasts’, both featuring “high quality” wines but diversified by price, with the latter priced £35 compared to £60 for the ‘expert’ trio.

In addition, a £15 shipping cost will be added to the price.

The privately-financed business had been developed to offer special wines and in doing so, supporting small wineries, said co-founder, Luca Menato, adding the three-strong wine boxes were “competitively priced” thanks to the start-ups’ direct link with wineries.

The aim of the business was to address wine lovers – people keen to go against the grain and “get in the game in a learning and discovering process”, added Menato.

“We want to tell all the world what lies beyond the bottle, making people discover winemakers, their stories and anecdotes,” he said.

Sommelier Wine Box was currently in the process of developing its website, selecting sommeliers and scouting wineries, he added.

The Indiegogo campaign will be live for a month, with the first box poised to be ready for delivery in February.
