Olivier Dauga reveals project bringing together wines from different châteaux

Published:  15 March, 2017

French winemaking consultant Olivier Dauga has launched a project bringing together wines from a selection of châteaux.

The initial Les Atmosphères collection includes a selection of limited edition wines from a number of different châteaux all said to be coming from "remarkable vineyard parcels or aged in exceptional barrels". Further editions would be added in due course.

With the portfolio, Dauga said he wanted to "go one step further" by creating a selection of wines he had helped to develop.

"Les Atmosphères is a philosophy based on finding places throughout the world that must be singled out and captured as cuvees," said Dauga, who has more than thirty years of experience working with winegrowers in France and internationally.

"All these years of following winegrowers, understanding their style and their roots, have given me a certain sensitivity, a certain approach that I want to pass on to wine lovers in search of new emotions."

The idea, he said, was not to try to make the best wines in the world, but rather those that expressed "all the originality of a piece of land, its orientation, a grape variety, a climate, a person, their history - a wine that expresses all the quintessence of the vineyard".

In a similar way to the Burgundian approach with climates, Dauga said Les Atmosphères was about "expressing individuality and humanity through a bottle", and above all moving away from "global approaches".
