Veeno opens in Edinburgh as part of rapid expansion plan

Published:  18 July, 2016

The duo behind Italian wine cafe chain Veeno are planning to bring Italian Aperitivo to Edinburgh with their eighth new opening.

Veeno Edinburgh is due to open its doors on Rose Street, pairing Sicilian wine with Italian meats and cheeses and creating up to 20 new jobs.

This follows an announcement from the company in September that they intend to open 80 sites across the UK by 2019.

The opening is the eighth for business partners Nino Caruso and Andrea Zecchino, who met in the spring of 2013 in Manchester and decided to launch a chain around an Italian Aperitivo concept - drinking, nibbling and relaxing after work.

The new café and bar will follow the company's model, offering wines from Caruso's family vineyard along with Spuntini - platters of meats and cheeses imported from Italian producers.

Veeno's wines come from Caruso's family vineyard in Sicily where Nino's great?grandfather Antonio planted the first vines in the 19th century.

Nino Caruso, co-founder and director of Veeno said: "We're delighted to be introducing the concept of Aperitivo to Edinburgh and is an exciting leap as we cross the border in to Scotland, our current venues have really created a buzz and we feel that Scotland is really missing out."

Following launches in seven cities - the most recent being Harrogate and Bristol - Veeno will open its doors on Saturday, August 6, in time for the Fringe Festival crowds.
