Carlyon Beach, on the south coast of Cornwall, will host the first in a series of wine tastings on Saturday June 4, 2016, coinciding with English Wine Week.

The event is organised and run by local wine expert ClioCollar, who will be serving up a selection of English wines from her Van du Vin, directly on the beach.

During the event, attendees will learn about the predominant grape varieties and styles of wines produced in England, the challenges for grape growers and how the climate influences the winemaking.

Six different types of wine will be tasted, including two sparkling wines made in the Champenoise method.

Clio Collar, who holds the Advanced Certificate from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust, said: "English wines have been gaining significantly more publicity in recent years as the quality of wines made on our shores, particularly those with a sparkle, have started to rival some of the best from Champagne. My goal is to help people feel passionate about English wine and make them see that it is much more versatile than they had perhaps realised."

Following the tastings, a bonfire will be lit and attendees invited to stay on the beach for dinner.

Food will be available to purchase from pop-up installations run by local businesses Ostraca and Sam's.

The June 4 tasting is the first in a series, with a further sixevents focusing on different topics from the wine world.

The next event, Winetasting: An Introduction, will take place on Friday June 10 , followed by Winetasting: Riesling, on Friday July 1.

Tickets are currently on sale via the Cornish Riviera Box Office, priced between £20 and £27.

Each session will run from 6 to 7.30pm.
