MMD adds California wines

Published:  18 February, 2016

Maisons Marques et Domaines has extended its California portfolio with the addition of the still wines of Roederer Estate, comprising Domaine Anderson and Carpe Diem, for distribution in the UK.

These new additions join the sparkling Quartet and Quartet Rosé at a time when interest in the new wave of more restrained California wines is riding high with both independent merchants and on-trade in the UK.

"We are confident they will help us build on the success of the well-established Quartet, at a time when the premium Californian segment continues to grow in popularity in the UK market," said MMD managing director Richard Billett.

Domaine Anderson is located in the cooler north of California, where the cooling effect of the nearby Pacific Ocean lends itself to the cultivation of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The winery, which owns 50 acres of vineyards spread throughout the Anderson Valley from Boonville to the cooler Mendocino coast, was purchased by Champagne Louis Roederer in 2011.

Both the Carpe Diem and Domaine Anderson wines feature a Pinot Noir and a Chardonnay positioned, respectively, in the upper £20 and upper £30 RRP brackets.

The full MMD range will be showing at the annual Go West! California Tasting on 10 March at the QE2 Conference Centre in London.
