Successful launch for Ireland's Dublin City Gin

Published:  02 February, 2016

Dublin, Ireland's capital, is the inspiration behind the country's latest gin, recently launched in the city.

The brainchild of friends Ciaran Reilly and Stephen Glennon, Dublin City Gin has been two years in development.

Botanicals used in the gin include fresh Dublin rhubarb and grapefruit to provide a zesty edge alongside the smoother juniper flavours.

The first batch of 400 bottles sold out quickly, and the gin is already available in the on-trade in Dublin at 57 The Headline and the Gin Palace, among other venues.

It is currently available online in Ireland through celticwhiskeyshop.com, with an online UK listing at masterofmalt.com to follow shortly. Germany is another target market for the distillery and the team hope to announce Dublin City's availability there in a few weeks.

Long-term plans for the company include a Dublin-based distillery and pub in the city centre.

Glennon, co-founder and director of Dublin City Gin, said: "At present, our gin is made under our strict supervision by one of Ireland's existing craft distilleries, but we're actively seeking a premises to establish our own craft distillery in the heart of Dublin.

"We're planning to have a visitor's centre where gin-lovers can come to learn about the art of gin-making, enjoy a Dublin City Gin and tonic, and experience some of the pleasure we experience ourselves in making each batch of Dublin City Gin.

"At the moment, however, we are focused on getting our second and third batches made for our home trade and the European market, and participating in selected trade shows around Europe."
