Successful Christmas launch for Bar 44 online retail service

Published:  07 January, 2016

Bar 44, the Welsh tapas bar and restaurant group, has successfully launched an online store to complement its existing customer offer.

The chain, which currently operates across three sites in Cowbridge, Penarth and Cardiff, has been offering customers Christmas gift boxes for the past three years.

It expanded that service online in the run-up to Christmas to offer potential customers nationwide its range of hand-selected artisan Spanish food-and-drink gift parcels.

As a result, sales of hampers increased 300% in the first two weeks of trading from December 7 to 14.

Tom Morgan, co-owner of Bar 44, said: "We decided to launch an online store for bespoke gift boxes of our premium products in time for Christmas for three key reasons.

"Firstly, as an extension of the existing healthy trade in take-home produce from our in-bar delis.

"Secondly, to ride on the back of the huge success of our hand-delivered festive gift boxes, which has tripled in trade over the last three years, and meet customer demand to widen availability of these for family and friends UK-wide.

"And finally, to showcase the very best produce available from our Spanish suppliers and hand pick 'hero' products for our customers to enjoy."

The initial range included selection boxes of premium quality sherries, Spanish reds, Spanish whites and cavas, a keg of craft pale ale brewed exclusively for Bar 44, and gift boxes containing high-quality Iberico and Serrano ham legs, which retail for up to £395.

The company plans to build on its initial success with the launch of own-brand olives, olive oil and sherry selections later in 2016, together with Bar 44-branded giftware.
