Chapel Down sees sales and profits surge in first half of 2015

Published:  28 September, 2015

Sales at English wine producer Chapel Down were up 33% in the first half of 2015 to stand at £3.25 million.

The company reported a 45% rise in wine sales, to £2.3 million, with beer and cider sales pushing close to £1 million, 33% ahead of the same period in 2014.

Gross profit of £1.2 million represented a rise of 31%, and reinvestment in brands, infrastructure and supply resulted in EBITDA of £84,000, up from £74,000 last year.

The company planted a further 82 acres of vines during the year.

Chief executive Frazer Thompson said: "Consumers' interest in English wines and beer grows from strength to strength and Chapel Down is well positioned to benefit.

"The proceeds of last year's successful crowdfunding are being used to plant more vines in the finest sites, improve our production facilities, winemaking equipment and systems and develop our people and brands.

"We are encouraged by the prospect of another good harvest in 2015 which will enable us to continue to improve the quality of our wines and ensure we have supply in place to meet future demand."
