Published:  14 September, 2015

Luvians Bottle Shop in St Andrews has been named retail winner of Wines of Germany's 31 Days of German Riesling promotion this year.

The restaurant award was won by Gordon Ramsay's London House in Battersea, south London.

Wines of Germany said that 167 retailers and restaurants had taken part in this year's month of events, a 65% increase on 2014.

Consumer sampling throughout the promotion reached 45,000 people.

Nicky Forrest, Wines of Germany's managing director in the UK, said: "The enthusiasm for Riesling has been amazing this year and we witnessed a real buzz around the grape variety.

"We have been thoroughly impressed with the fun and creative activities that have taken place all across the UK and found selecting the winners harder than ever this year."

The retail runner-up was Wine Reserve of Cobham, Surrey, with highly commended awards given to The Winery of Maida Vale and Handford Wines of South Kensington in London, and Harrogate Fine Wine Co.

The restaurant runner-up was The Radcliffe of Hitchin, Hertfordshire, while two London venues were highly commended: The Jugged Hare at the Barbican and The Remedy in Westminster.
