Bourbon and Brewdog mix wins Bristol bartender Wild Turkey award

Published:  17 August, 2015

A Bristol bartender has won Wild Turkey's annual cocktail competition with a concoction containing the bourbon mixed with a Brewdog beer and egg white.

Dan Bovey of Be@1 in the city won the contest with his Russell's Preserve drink, named in honour of master distiller Eddie Russell and his father Jimmy, from whom Eddie took over the role earlier this year.

Russell's Preserve is made with Wild Turkey 81, apricot syrup, lemon juice, Regan's bitters, Brewdog Sink the Bismarck, egg white and a garnish of hops and orange zest.

The runners-up were Robin Honhold of White Lyan in east London and Adam Binnersley of Mojo in Manchester.

Bovey said: Dan said: "It's just unbelievable and completely unexpected.

"It completely freaked me out having Eddie there because a lot of my presentation was about Eddie and the Russells, so telling Eddie about what he does was nerve wrecking and crazy."

Russell, who took over from father Jimmy as master distiller at Wild Turkey earlier this year, said: "Dan's drink made the most of the flavours in our bourbon. Coupled with what he knew about Wild Turkey without having been at the distillery makes Dan a worthy winner this year.

"These are the guys who are growing the industry and doing such a wonderful job."
