Whisky Show to host 'world's most expensive tasting' to raise money for Nepal
What is being billed as the world's most expensive whisky tasting will be held in London in October.
The tasting is part of The Whisky Show, with tickets priced at £6,000 each and only 45 places available, to be allocated by a ballot from all those who apply.
Organisers hope the tasting will sell out, raising £270,000 for five charities providing relief from this year's Nepal earthquake.
Those attending will receive a special charity bottling of Karuizawa 1983, a Japanese malt from a distillery that closed in 2001. Some rarer expressions command prices of over £10,000 a bottle.
Only 50 bottles of the 1983 special edition have been produced and the ticket price includes a bottle and an on-the-day taste along with samples of the distillery's 1981, 29 Year Old, 30 Year Old and 1970 42 Year Old. None of the whiskies are available in retail.
Two bottles of Karuizawa will be auctioned at Whisky.auction and Bonhams in Hong Kong.
The Whisky Show is at Old Billingsgate in London on October 3 and 4.
