Gruppo Campari announces strong half-year sales and margins

Published:  06 August, 2015

Gruppo Campari has posted strong sales and higher margins for the first six months of 2015.

Gruppo Campari has reported strong sales and higher margins for the first six months of 2015.

Sales rose 10.5% in the half-year to €758m (£533m), thanks in part to a strong dollar. Organis sales were up 2.7%.

The group reported its EBITDA at €164.6m (£115.8m), up +17.6% year or year and representing a 21.7% margin.

The group has focused on five key high-margin brands to drive growth: its namesake aperitif Campari, SKYY vodka, Wild Turkey whisky, Aperol and Appleton Estate Jamaican rums.

All five showed impressive returns for the period, led by the Jamaican rums, which grew by 13.3%. Wild Turkey reported 7.8% growth and Aperol 5.7%, with particularly strong results in France and Spain.

Campari chief executive Bob Kunze-Concewitz said: "We achieved positive growth across all performance indicators in the first half of 2015. In particular, the positive organic growth and the favourable mix was driven by the five global priorities, which grew +5.8% in sales in the first half and gained traction in the second quarter, as well as the core developed markets.

"Looking forward, we are on track to achieve a positive full-year performance."

The group reported weaknesses in some emerging markets, with Brazil and Russia particular concerns.

Milan-based Campari is the world's sixth largest producer of spirits.

The numbers compare favourably to the full-year results posted by market-leader Diageo at the end of July. Diageo reported flat organic sales for the second year running.

Gruppo Campari started direct distribution in UK on 1 March 2015.
