Majestic launches click-and-collect service for Naked Wine customers

Published:  06 August, 2015

Naked Wines has launched a click-and-collect service for its customers through the Majestic network of stores.

The online wine merchant's customers will now have the option of collecting their wines from their nearest Majestic store instead of waiting for home delivery. The service will be free of charge.

The service was trialled at 22 locations around the UK and will now be rolled out nationally.

Majestic currently has 213 stores nationwide. Chief executive Rowan Gormley recently announced plans to open in a further 20 or 30 new locations, including some smaller format premises in London.

Naked Wines has over 150,000 'Angel' customers who invest directly in the winemaking process in return for lower bottle prices.

The Naked Wines' stock will remain exclusive and will not be available for purchase by Majestic customers.

Majestic hopes the move will drive footfall to its network and attract new customers. Its Norwich store reported nearly 3,000 users of the click-and-collect service during the trial period.

Rowan Gormley said: "Access to a national store network was one of the clear benefits for Naked Wines following the acquisition by Majestic, and it is great that we've been able to launch this service to Naked Wines' customers so quickly.

"It is obvious to me that both businesses have much to offer one another and we are working on optimising even more of the complementary strengths between the two."

Eamon Fitzgerald, Naked Wines' UK managing director, said: "We're delighted to roll out this service to Majestic's full store network. Our Angel customers invest in our wines up-front, and deserve to receive their wines when it suits them.

"We've seen a strong take-up from customers - particularly for those living in city centres and work full time. We have been looking for a solution for some time, and Majestic's national footprint and logistics expertise are ideal."

Majestic acquired Naked Wines in April 2015 for £70m.

The UK division of Naked Wines made a £1.3m profit in 2014, the first time it has done so. Majestic posted profits of £18.4m in the year to end March 2015. This represented a drop of 22.5% on the previous year.
