Multi-vintage Lallier Champagne makes UK debut through Boutinot

Published:  21 July, 2015

Champagne Lallier has released the first cuvée in its Série R collection of multi-vintage NV Champagnes through Boutinot in the UK.

Lallier R012 - the R denoting récolte, or harvest - is a Pinot Noir-dominated blend of grapes, with 81% coming from the 2012 vintage and the rest coming from 2002, 2004 and 2008.

Winemaker-owner Francis Tribaut believes focusing on a single year, and using fine vintages in smaller quantities than for reserve wine, expresses the best of the 2012 vintage.

Tribaut said: "To be frank, reserve wine gives the winemaker the security of a safety net - resources in the vaults, you might say, should the following harvest be decimated by the weather gods.

"Série R keeps the beautiful nuances that a vintage provides, while avoiding wines which could be unexceptional in themselves.

"I have selected and blended the very best I can, so R012 is a reflection of the Lallier style, expressed through a predominant vintage."

The Champagne is a blend of 62% Pinot Noir and 38% Chardonnay, with 85% of the fruit coming from Grand Crus vineyards.

It is available to the on-trade and independent off-trade with an rrp of £29.99.
