Hawksmoor's Reynolds takes UK title in Diageo World Class contest

Published:  19 June, 2015

The UK final of Diageo Reserve's World Class bartending competition has been won by Ali Reynolds of Hakwsmoor in London's Spitalfields.

Finalists had to identify six whiskies used in a special blend created for the competition and produce signature drinks to reflect their own bartending style and that of the bar in which they work.

They had to use spirits from the Diageo Reserve collection of luxury brands including Ciroc and Ketel One vodkas, Johnnie Walker Platinum, Gold and Blue whiskies, Don Julio tequila and Zacapa rum.

Contestants also had to create drinks matches to go with a menu featuring ingredients foraged from the grounds of the final venue, Drummuir Castle in Scotland, by chef Lee Westcott of the Typing Room in east London.

Reynolds will take part in the global final in South Africa in September and appear in a promotional feature in GQ magazine.

Hakwsmoor will receive a £10,000 marketing fund to create an exclusive World Class ritual serve.

Diageo Reserve World Class brand ambassador Dan Dove said Reynolds' "insight, creativity and originaliuty truly earned him the title".
