Juan Domingo Beckmann, the chief executive officer and a tenth generation Jose Cuervo family member said: "Becoming a Don of Tequila is the ultimate accolade which is only awarded to those who truly deserve it. We'll be setting bartenders all over the world challenges that demonstrate their creativity, passion and worthiness of the 'Don of Tequila' title."

The first stage of the completion opened last week and will run until 13 May, 2015. Those bartenders looking to participate in the competition should upload a digital photo of their own tequila serve, which will be inspired by one of the current Dons.

Top entries from the first stage will compete nationally this summer to represent their country in the next stage of the competition in Mexico. The national winners will be taken to the Jose Cuervo distillery called La Rojeña located in Tequila, Mexico for a final global competition.

The winner of the title of the Don of Tequila, will then be flown to Tequila, Mexico where they will get to harvest their own crop of agave on the Jose Cuervo estate and blend the tequila which will be labelled under their own name.
