Published:  25 March, 2015

E&J Gallo Winery has expanded its Californian holdings, after acquiring premium wine brand J Vineyards for an undisclosed sum.

The global wine producer has acquired the upmarket Vineyard and Winery brand, which comprises nine vineyards spread across more than 300 acres, and the Healdsburg winery. Gallo, which  is the largest exporter of Californian wine, already owns nine wineries across California and Washington.

Roger Nabedian, senior vice president and general manager of Gallo's Premium Wine Division said the J-brand brand held a "unique position" in the marketplace.

"J Vineyards & Winery is well known for their award-winning sparkling wines and we look forward to carrying on the winery's reputation of making elegant, luxurious wines," he said.

Judy Jordan, who founded the company in 1986 and built it from a small sparkling wine producer into a luxury brand, said it was a "perfect fit" that would take J Vineyards to "even greater heights".

"E&J Gallo is also privately owned and shares similar core values as both companies are dedicated to a balance of quality, community, and financial sustainability."

The J winery, which produced sparkling wines, as well as Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris estate varietal wines, is a well-known premium brand in the US.
