English sparkling producer Jenkyn Place adds first Blanc de Noir

Published:  31 March, 2015

Hampshire winery Jenkyn Place has added its first Blanc de Noirs to its range, which will be available from June.

The new sparkling wine - a blend of 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Pinot Meunier - will only be made in exceptional years, owner Simon Bladon said.

"This is our first Blanc de Noirs, so we're very excited. English sparkling wine is growing as a category and our classic Brut Cuvée and Sparkling Rosé have proven very popular amongst consumers. We felt that now was the right time to add this very complex and richer sparkling wine to our offering," he said.

The 12-acre vineyard currently produces a Brut Cuvée 2010 and Sparkling Rosé 2009, from its Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes.

2014 was one of the best vintages for English sparkling wine following a frost-free spring, a warm July, enough rain in August to swell the crop and one of the driest and warmest September on record. Bladon said it had produced one of the "biggest and best" harvests at Jenkyn Place .
