The two competing wine schools went head to head in a special fun quiz held at the London Cru winery as part of a week of events organised for the Burgundy students during a study tour of the UK.

Hosted by Justin Knock, one of the new owners of London wine merchant, Philglas & Swiggott, the University Challenge-style quiz looked to test the two sides' wine knowledge.

Question topics ranged from understanding the Scandinavian alcohol monopoly system, to the technical investigation in to the legalities of some Spanish wine production to knowing the wine connection to the film "Summer Holiday".

The answer to the last question was, of course, Cliff Richard and his Vida Nova wine made in Portgual.

The students were also asked to take part in picture rounds and identify the Moselle Ürziger Würzgarten from a set of photos.

All of which ended with Burgundy just sneaking ahead at the end of the competition by 115 points to 95.

The winning team returned to France with a glass trophy and bottle of English sparkling wine, Mayfield Expression 2010 Brut Rosé provided by Sussex Vineyards, sponsors of the event.
