Top wine business students rate London market

A host of top MSc students in the wine sector are travelling to London to evaluate the wine trade this week as part of their studies.

Led by Dr Damien Wilson of the School of Wine Business at France's Dijon University in Burgundy, the 18-strong group will head to the Google Campus in London to contribute to a discussion on the future of wine video. Top trade commentator Robert Joseph, YouTube star Stephen Cronk of the famous 'opening a wine bottle with a shoe' video, Wine Bird Helena Nicklin and Diana Isac, co-founder of wine and travel website Winerist.

As part of the course modules on Emergent Issues, Negotiation and Wine Sales, the students will also listen to a lecture from Joseph on emerging issues in the trade. The group will then meet with Direct Wines at its Theale headquarters to learn about the realities of supplying the UK market.

Also on the agenda is a meeting with fellow scholars from Plumpton College in Sussex at London's first winery, London Cru.

The group will also hear from Waitrose on how to manage wine logistics, receival, storage and merchandising, as well as meeting Justin Knock MW to talk about the capital's wine retail market.

In order to build a full picture of retailing options in the UK, the visitors will also go to Lidl and Aldi stores to evaluate their wine offer.
