Drinks suppliers: Last chance to rate major retailers in our survey

Published:  23 December, 2014

2014 saw the drinks supply sector rocked by news of Tesco's accounting practices, and the subsequent suspension of the supermarket's BWS chief brought the scandal closer to home. We would like to find out how suppliers rate retailers across the board.

2014 saw the drinks supply sector rocked by news of Tesco's accounting practices, and the subsequent suspension of the supermarket's BWS chief brought the scandal closer to home.  We would like to find out how suppliers rate retailers across the board.

Tesco signTesco is making all the headlines, but we'd like to find out what suppliers think of all the retailers they work with in our survey.

Tesco's £263 million financial blackhole has raised questions about how deals are negotiated, and kept to, with suppliers, and how they are then accounted for. Aside from the media spotlight, analysts and shareholders are keen to find out more, while the Serious Fraud Office, government's Groceries Supply Code Adjudicator and its business, innovation and skills select committee are also craning their necks to get more details.

As predicted by Harpers.co.uk, it has now emerged that suppliers themselves are to be interviewed about deals they carried out with the retailer.

But this issue is not confined to just one supermarket - questions have been raised about how suppliers are treated by retailers across the board. Wine specialist Majestic came under fire at the end of October for writing to its suppliers asking for a 4p per bottle retrospective contribution to finance its new warehouse in Hemel Hempstead.

In an effort to better understand how key suppliers in the wine and spirits sector interact with the major retailers, Harpers.co.uk would like to find out which retailers you rate as the best or worst to work with, most demanding and ultimately fairest. That's why we've designed our Harpers supplier/retailer survey, that you can fill in here. To thank you for giving up three minutes of your time to take the questionnaire, we're offering £100 of Amazon vouchers.

The major retailers constitute a vital part of UK wine trade revenues, accounting for eight out of every 10 bottles sold. We'd like to know if or how you think retailers could work in a better, more equitable way, with suppliers, and ensure that everyone has a chance to make a profit from the deals that are necessarily struck on a daily basis.
