Tesco moves five of Finest wine range to 1.5 litre bag-in-box

Published:  30 September, 2014

Tesco has moved five of its most popular bottled wines from its Finest range into 1.5 litre bag-in-box, after seeing growth in the format.

Tesco has moved five of its most popular bottled wines from its Finest range into 1.5 litre bag-in-box, after seeing growth in the format.

The supermarket has seen "strong year-on-year growth" for its own label bag in box wines, and now wants to offer a more "convenient packaging style" for shoppers. All five wines will still be available in 75 cl bottles too.

UK & global category product development manager, Laura Jewell MW, said: "The new 1.5 litre packaging format for Finest is equivalent to two bottles, but in lighter, more compact and convenient packaging.  The boxes will keep the wine fresh for six weeks after opening as well as take up less space in the fridge than two bottles.  This is the first time we have used this format; we felt the size was perfect for our Finest brand."

Tesco product development manager Lucy Clements said: "The Tesco wine team has applied all the skills and learning we have developed throughout our years of bottling wine to create a bespoke, premium 1.5 litre bag-in-box.  New to the UK market, we have thoroughly checked the quality control to ensure the Finest wine is at its best in this new format.  The wines are now ready to be released to our customers and we look forward to hearing their feedback."

The five wines that are available in the new bag-in-box format are available in stores from this week.

They are all from the Finest range and include:

  • Picpoul de Pinet, 1.5 litre, £14.99
  • Fiano, 1.5 litre, £14.99
  • Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, 1.5 litre, £11.99
  • Swartland Chenin Blanc, 1.5 litre, £12.99
  • Swartland Shiraz, 1.5 litre, £13.99
