Advertising guru turned wine producer, St John Hegarty, is to give the keynote talk at this month's Wine & Spirit Trade Association annual conference.

Sir John, and his acclaimed advertising agency, Bartle Bogle Hegarty, have been behind some of the most iconic adverts over the last 30 years. These include the ground breaking Levi jean adverts in the 1980s featuring male model Nick Kamen. It is the agency behind Audi's "Vorsprung durch Technik" campaign and and has done work for many drinks brands including Diageo.

The WSTA has invited Sir John to talk around the central theme of the conference - "new opportunities in traditional industries" -  and "explore how wine and spirit companies can better communicate with their target audience".

Sir John will be able to speak from personal experience as he owns his own vineyard in the Languedoc producing his own range of Hegarty wines on sale in the UK.

Miles Beale, chief executive of the WSTA, said: "We are delighted to welcome Sir John Hegarty as the keynote speaker for this year's WSTA Annual Conference. His considerable and sustained success in the creative industries makes him the ideal candidate to provide valuable insights into the importance of innovation and creativity in securing a successful future for the wine and spirit trade."

This year's event takes place on September 17 at One Great George Street near Westminster. It will once again be a key opportunity for the trade to come together and assess, with Beale, the current state of trading against the overall political and economic backdrop. The conference will be chaired by WSTA chairman, Nick Hyde.

A key feature of the conference will be a panel discussion featuring industry and non-industry experts looking at "how branding, innovation and digital communications play an integral part in consumer engagement" chaired by Simon Jack, business editor of BBC's Today programme.

The conference runs from 2pm to 5.30pm followed by a drinks reception. To book tickets and register go to https://www.wstaevents.co.uk/event-calendar.
