Berry Bros & Rudd and Roberson win Independent Merchants of the year at IWC 2014

Berry Bros & Rudd and Roberson Wine were named Large and Small Independent Merchant of the Year at last night's International Wine Challenge awards dinner. 

Berry Bros & Rudd and Roberson Wine were named Large and Small Independent Merchant of the Year at last night's International Wine Challenge awards dinner.

It was to prove to be a highly successful night for Berry Bros & Rudd as it also won the overall highly coveted Merchant of the Year (see IWC Merchant Top Gongs story).

The main agent of the year awards went to Liberty, named  the IWC's Large Agent of the Year, followed by Indigo Wines, Small Agent of the Year. Liberty Wines also won the On-trade Supplier of the Year and the Trade Wine Merchant of the Year.

Other key merchant awards went to:

  • IWC Innovator of the Year: London Cru
  • IWC Wine List of the Year: Alliance Wine
  • IWC Wine Educator of the Year: Bibendum Wine Ltd
  • IWC Wine Club of the Year: The Wine Society

Charles Metcalfe, co-Chairman of the IWC, said of the merchant awards: "The IWC is dedicated to celebrating not only excellent winemakers but also wonderful wine merchants. Our excellent Merchant Award winners play a hugely important role in getting some of the best wines from around the world to the UK's wine drinkers. They are the gatekeepers of fine wine, exciting shoppers and enhancing their enjoyment of wine. It is the passion, expertise and dedication of these merchants which ensures that great new wines are discovered and shared, and that shoppers receive the best wines they can for any occasion or budget."

The awards were presented at London's Grosvenor House hotel last night.
