Berry Bros & Rudd revamps Basingstoke wine store

Published:  28 May, 2014

Wine and spirit merchant Berry Bros & Rudd has revamped its Basingstoke Warehouse shop which will officially open later this week.

The new Berry Bros Warehouse shop will have a broader wine selection, with more than 300 wines and spirits in stock, all offered at up to 30% off. Prices will vary from £5 to £1000 per bottle. The retailer is also boosting its fine wine selection, priced between £35 and £100. Customers buying six or 12 bottles will get a case discount.

The space was originally a bottling hall before the area was converted to become Berry Bros' first retail outlet in Basingstoke in 1995. Almost 20 years later, as part of an ongoing rebranding project, the space has been redesigned.

Recently appointed shop manager, Stephen George, said: "The new design will enable us to present a wider range and larger number of wines at myriad price points. A new look shop with fresh faces: it is an exciting time for us, and we hope for our customers too."

The store will officially be opened on May 30 by Basingstoke's Mayor and Deane Cllr Roger Gardiner. Some of Berry Bros' eight Masters of Wine will be on hand to welcome the media and guide them through a selection of wines from 1995, the year that the Basingstoke shop first opened its doors.

Caroline Keppel-Palmer, of Urban Salon architects, said the new store layout is "intuitive" to allow customers to easily find what they're looking for. Wine is displayed in original wooden boxes and tasting tables are located "under an avenue of 52 enamel lights along the length of the whole store enabling customers to try before they buy".

The shop includes a separate fine wine room where wine is displayed on back lit wooden units under a distinctive slatted ceiling.

As part of its launch offer, customers spending over £100 on May 30 and 31 will receive  a free bottle of Berrys' United Kingdom Cuvée Champagne . There will also be 25% off Pol Roger NV Champagne until June 30, 2014.
