Bargain Booze expands in south of England

Published:  31 March, 2014

Bargain Booze has opened its first Kent store as part of parent company Conviviality Retail's expansion strategy.

The 1,400 sq ft former Budgens store in Ramsgate, owned by William Morrison and daughter Annabel Duplessis, is the first to open under the Bargain Booze Select Convenience fascia in the region.

Duplessis said: "Strong competition in the local area meant that we were seeking a point of difference for the store on the high street.

"Launching as Bargain Booze Select Convenience means that we can continue to provide our customers with the groceries they expect from us, while also offering exceptionally good  value and a destination alcohol assortment.

Keith Webb, franchise director at Conviviality Retail, said: "Bargain Booze Select Convenience is a great choice for independent convenience store owners who are keen to offer their customers value and choice on the high street.

"We are unrivalled for our alcohol proposition but along with a growing grocery selection, we provide retailers with all the tools they need to maximise their existing skills and passion for retailing.

"We have ambitious expansion plans in the south and this new partnership is the first step on our journey."

Conviviality Retail Plc owns the UK's largest franchised off-licence and convenience chain with 600 stores. Franchisees recently shared more than £180,000 in the company's first payout of its Franchisee Reward Scheme.

The stores are located throughout England and Wales and operate under six fascias including Bargain Booze, Bargain Booze Select Convenience, Thorougoods and Wine Rack. The company listed on AIM in July 2013.
