A week is a long time in the world of wine of spirits. Here is our round up of the main news, views and opinions that have appeared on Harpers.co.uk over the last week.

News

Not only did Enotria hold its annual tasting in London this week, chief exectuive, Alison Levett talked to Gemma McKenna about her plans for the company as a whole, its new corporate identity, a new sales strategy and sticking its "head above the parapet".

The TaxPayers Alliance threw thrown its weight behind the Call Time on Duty campaign this week with an industry launch reception in London and news that it is to distribute beer coasters through pubs calling on the public to lobby their MP about the duty escalator. Read our story here.

US wine giant, Gallo, released its plans for the UK this week and in particular a further push in to premium wines. Helen Arnold was on hand to report. Story here.

Let's get behind Fairtrade

Harpers.co.uk has teamed up with South African wine producer, Origin Wines, to create a dedicated section of the site to help promote and raise awareness of the Fairtrade Foundation's Fairtrade Fortnight and keep the trade informed about who is doing what across the on and off-trades to highligh Fairtrade wines. As part of our Fairtrade Fortnight promotion, Origin Wines founder, Bernard Fontannaz gives his own personal reasons why he and his company are so involved in Fairtrade and makes a plea for all businesses to take the principles of Fairtrade seriously. Read his moving opinion piece here.
