Cru Bourgeois 2011 wines to be revealed at London tasting

Wines selected from the 2011 vintage for Cru Bourgeois Médoc status will be shown for the first time to the trade at a special tasting in London on September 19.

The final selection of Crus Bourgeois du Médoc 2011 will be announced by the Alliance des Crus Bourgeois du Médoc on September 17 in Bordeaux. The 2010 vintage saw 260 wines selected and 264 made it through for the 2009 vintage.

The London tasting, which takes place at 10-11 Carlton House Terrace, will also inclucde a panel discussion on "How to add value to your Bordeaux selection with Crus Bourgeois". The session, which will be chaired by Bordeaux expert Stephen Brook and a representative of the Crus Bourgeois du Médoc, will inlcude Laura Jewell MW, category development manager for wine at Tesco; Hal Wilson, managing director of Cambridge Wine Merchants; Ronan Sayburn MS, head of wines at he Dorchester Collection; and Dirceu Vianna Junior MW, wine director at Coe Group.

The Cru Bourgeois accreditation was first introduced in November 2009 to add a further layer and indication of wine quality from Bordeaux for consumers. Each Cru Bourgeois selected wine must, since the 2010 vintage, carry the official Cru Bourgeois sticker with a unique code for each bottle. Cru Bourgeois wines come from eight Bordeaux appellatios - Médoc, Haut-Médoc, Listrac-Médoc, Moulis, Margaux, Saint Julien, Pauillac and Saint Estèphe.
